NASA has officially awarded a major hybrid support contract to maintain its historic and specialized infrastructure in California’s Silicon Valley. In a significant win for federal base operations providers, Chugach Intelligence Solutions—a subsidiary of Chugach Government Solutions—has successfully secured the massive Chugach NASA Ames facilities contract. Valued at a maximum potential of $158 million, this comprehensive agreement will ensure that the critical research and mission support environments at the Ames Research Center remain fully operational for years to come.
Executing the AFSS II Mission
At the heart of this award is the Ames Facilities Support Services II (AFSS II) requirement. Under this expansive contract, Chugach is directly tasked with executing comprehensive operations, maintenance, and complex repair services. The sprawling scope of work covers the 1,960-acre Moffett Field site, which notably houses the 389-acre Ames Research Center campus.
Chugach will be responsible for maintaining an incredibly diverse portfolio of high-consequence infrastructure. This includes managing sensitive clean rooms, sustaining massive utility architectures, and operating specialized laboratories, computing facilities, and research complexes. By managing both routine upkeep and emergent facility needs, the company will play a crucial, behind-the-scenes role in supporting the agency’s ongoing aerospace missions and the various tenant organizations based at the NASA Research Park.
A Flexible Hybrid Structure
To accommodate the unique and rapidly evolving requirements of sustaining a world-class research installation, NASA designed the AFSS II procurement as a highly flexible hybrid contract. The structure seamlessly blends cost-plus-award-fee core requirements with firm-fixed-price phase-in work and indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) task orders, giving the agency the agility needed to fund specific infrastructure projects as demand dictates.
The $158 million contract boasts a five-year period of performance, structured with an initial 12-month base period followed by four 12-month option periods, plus a possible six-month extension. With performance expected to begin on August 13, 2026, this award firmly cements Chugach’s growing footprint within the federal space sector, building upon the Alaska Native Corporation’s proven legacy of delivering mission-critical infrastructure and logistics support to the defense, intelligence, and civilian aerospace communities.
