Looks like U.S. Space Force just stepped their game up making some serious moves, awarding over $13.5 billion in launch contracts which by SpaceX, ULA, and Blue Origin for missions scheduled between FY 2027 and 2032. Here’s the sentence in active voice:
Space Force Awards $13.5B in Launch Contracts to SpaceX, ULA, and Blue Origin
Elon Musk will surely be a very happy block as SpaceX leads with $5.9B for 28 missions, possibly rewarding them for their incredible rocket-catching abilities. ULA follows with $5.3B for 19 missions, and Blue Origin—a newcomer—lands $2.3B for 7 missions, despite its New Glenn rocket still needing certifications before blasting off. These contracts are part of the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program, which basically is the boss when the topic is about space national defense. The Space Force is doubling down, with 84 launches planned over the next five years—it seems like we are ready for finding aliens or them finding us, either way we are ready . To keep things competitive, they’ve split launches into two lanes: Lane 1 for commercial-like, lower-risk missions (for the newbies), and Lane 2, just awarded, for the heavy-duty, security-sensitive stuff usually for the big guys.
Blue Origin’s entry is big news and has surely turned heads (wonder who wrote their proposal template). Other companies like Rocket Lab and Stoke Space have no reason to feel sad, as they will also get their shot at Lane 1 missions soon, with RFPs dropping later this spring. Back to the serious talks, Brig. Gen. Panzenhagen is quite optimistic about the moves as he vows these would strengthen launch capacity and ensures national security stays on point. Bottom line: Space is becoming busier, with crowds increasing and the competition heating up. In the next few years, don’t be surprised if people post memes from space.
