The U.S. Navy is significantly upgrading its surface fleet’s defensive capabilities against rapidly evolving airborne and electronic threats. In a major defense procurement announcement, ManTech has officially secured a highly lucrative agreement to modernize critical shipboard systems. The newly announced Matt Tait ManTech CEO NSWC Crane contract award represents a $197 million investment to ensure American naval vessels remain highly resilient in increasingly contested maritime environments.
Upgrading Surface Radar Systems
Awarded by the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division, the comprehensive five-year contract tasks ManTech with delivering advanced RDT&E services (Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation). The core focus of this massive initiative is the modification, upgrade, and integration of both legacy and cutting-edge technology systems across the Navy’s surface fleet.
These modernization efforts will specifically target critical radar platforms responsible for tracking hundreds of simultaneous air and surface targets. By aggressively upgrading these systems, ManTech will help the Navy guide defensive interceptor missiles, guard against complex missile saturation attacks, and deploy active digital jamming defenses. The modernized platforms will be fully integrated with existing Department of Defense radar and electronic warfare networks.

By empowering sailors and shipyard technicians with the tech-forward diagnostics required to perform complex repairs directly on-site, the military aims to create a highly self-sustaining fleet.
