Coincheck Group reported its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, reflecting weaker cryptocurrency market activity despite continued growth in its customer base. Total revenue declined year over year as lower digital asset prices and reduced trading activity weighed on transaction volumes across the company’s crypto exchange platform.
The company reported a net loss of ¥1.18 billion (approximately $7.2 million), an improvement from the ¥1.38 billion loss recorded in the same quarter last year. EBITDA loss narrowed to ¥897 million ($5.5 million), while adjusted EBITDA improved to a loss of ¥517 million ($3.2 million) from ¥398 million a year earlier, reflecting ongoing investments in growth and operational expansion.
Verified Accounts Continue to Grow
Despite challenging market conditions, Coincheck continued to expand its customer base. The number of verified accounts increased 12% year over year, demonstrating sustained retail interest in the platform even as cryptocurrency trading volumes moderated.
However, customer assets declined 37% compared with the prior year, primarily due to lower cryptocurrency valuations rather than significant customer outflows. The decline reflects the broader weakness across digital asset markets during the reporting period.
Focus Expands Beyond Retail Trading
Coincheck said it is continuing to diversify its business beyond its core retail cryptocurrency exchange. The company is investing in institutional trading services, digital asset custody, staking, and asset management, aiming to create a broader digital finance platform.
Management highlighted that the business is leveraging its leadership position in Japan while expanding infrastructure and institutional capabilities across multiple markets. These initiatives are intended to reduce reliance on retail trading volumes and build more stable long-term revenue streams.
Strategic Investments Continue
The quarter also reflects Coincheck’s continued investment in technology, product development, and strategic growth initiatives. While these investments weighed on short-term profitability, management believes they position the company to benefit as cryptocurrency adoption and institutional participation continue to expand.
The company recently strengthened its strategic position through partnerships and investments, including collaboration with KDDI and the ongoing development of its digital asset ecosystem.
Outlook
Coincheck enters the remainder of fiscal 2027 focused on balancing growth with operational efficiency. Although cryptocurrency market volatility continues to pressure trading activity and customer asset values, the company is encouraged by its expanding user base and progress in building institutional and infrastructure-focused businesses.
With verified accounts continuing to rise and new service offerings gaining traction, Coincheck aims to strengthen its position as a diversified digital asset platform capable of benefiting from the next phase of crypto market growth.
