Air (the defense software and data firm formerly known as Govini) has officially appointed veteran technology executive and Air board of directors Dave DeWalt appointment subject Dave DeWalt to its board of directors. The strategic addition comes just over a month after the company underwent a high-profile corporate rebranding, signaling an aggressive push to scale its enterprise readiness tools across the national security and government contracting sectors.
Deep Cybersecurity and Executive Pedigree
DeWalt brings more than three decades of experience leading and scaling high-growth technology and cybersecurity enterprises. He is the founder and CEO of NightDragon, a venture capital and advisory firm dedicated to securing the land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains.
Over the course of his career, DeWalt has served as a four-time chief executive officer, holding the top post at prominent technology firms including McAfee, FireEye, and Documentum. Under his leadership, McAfee was famously acquired by Intel for $7.7 billion, while FireEye underwent one of the cybersecurity industry’s most significant initial public offerings.
Beyond his private-sector ventures, DeWalt holds deep ties to critical infrastructure and national security advisory bodies. He currently sits on the boards of Delta Air Lines and Exelon Corporation, and he has served four U.S. presidential administrations on the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). He also previously acted as Vice Chair of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Cybersecurity Advisory Committee.
Scaling the Enterprise Readiness Platform
DeWalt’s appointment is the latest in a series of major organizational shifts designed to align the company’s executive leadership with its evolving mission. By transitioning from Govini to Air, the company is doubling down on its flagship Enterprise Readiness platform.
The software platform is engineered to give the Department of Defense, federal agencies, and major defense contractors real-time visibility into their supply chains, workforce capabilities, and programmatic risks. As geopolitical tensions demand faster acquisition timelines and resilient defense manufacturing, Air is positioning its data-driven analytics as foundational infrastructure for military and industrial preparedness.
A Growth Catalyst for Defense Tech
Company leadership noted that DeWalt’s extensive background in scaling SaaS platforms, navigating federal cybersecurity compliance, and advising high-growth ventures will be instrumental as Air expands its footprint. By combining DeWalt’s operational playbook with its own defense-focused software suite, Air aims to bridge the gap between commercial tech innovation and the stringent requirements of the national security enterprise.
