Prudential plc (NYSE: PUK) continued its 2026 share buy-back programme by purchasing additional ordinary shares between August 3 and August 7, 2026. The latest transactions were carried out through JP Morgan Securities plc under an arrangement approved by shareholders at Prudential’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.
The purchases were executed across several trading venues, including the London Stock Exchange and other European trading platforms. The reported volume-weighted average prices ranged from £10.2050 to £11.1228 per share, reflecting transactions completed during the latest phase of the programme.
53 Million Shares Bought
The latest purchases add to a substantial repurchase programme that began on January 6, 2026. Since its launch, Prudential has acquired 53,099,351 ordinary shares at a volume-weighted average price of 1,089.4063 pence per share.
Prudential said it intends to cancel the shares purchased through the programme. Following the latest transactions and intended cancellations, the company will have 2,500,847,618 shares in issue, with the same number of total voting rights.
Shareholders can use this updated share count as the denominator when determining whether they need to disclose changes in their ownership under the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules.
Multi-Venue Transactions
The latest buybacks included purchases on August 3 and 4 through XLON, followed by transactions on August 5 across AQXE, BATE and CHIX, among other venues. For example, Prudential reported a volume-weighted average purchase price of £11.1228 per share on August 3 and £10.9137 on August 4.
The company said the transactions were conducted as on-exchange purchases subject to London Stock Exchange Listing Rules and treated as on-market purchases under the Hong Kong Code on Share Buy-Backs.
What It Means for Investors
The continued repurchases demonstrate that Prudential is actively returning capital through its buyback programme. Cancelling the repurchased shares reduces the number of shares outstanding, which can increase the proportional ownership of remaining shareholders and potentially support per-share financial metrics.
The latest filing also provides investors with an updated picture of the programme’s progress, with more than 53 million shares already purchased since January.
Prudential’s ongoing buyback activity will remain an important factor for investors watching capital allocation, shareholder returns and the company’s share count through the remainder of 2026.
