The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is taking a massive leap to replace its rapidly aging financial infrastructure. In a significant federal healthcare IT announcement, CACI International has officially secured a potential six-year, $308 million contract to overhaul and sustain the agency’s complex financial management environment. This massive modernization effort is designed to completely transition the VA away from decades-old legacy systems, boosting operational efficiency and ensuring taxpayer dollars are tracked with absolute precision.
Upgrading to iFAMS
At the very center of this $308 million agreement is the VA’s Integrated Financial and Acquisition Management System (iFAMS). Designed as a highly advanced Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform, iFAMS seamlessly combines the department’s financial and acquisition functions into a single, unified system.
Under the new contract, CACI is explicitly tasked with providing comprehensive operations and maintenance support for this critical tool. Because iFAMS is securely hosted in the VA Enterprise Cloud on Microsoft Azure Government, the transition allows the agency to drastically improve the accuracy, integrity, and real-time accessibility of its financial data. The ultimate goal is to increase system agility and productivity while ensuring all financial, procurement, and reporting processes meet strict regulatory compliance.
Strengthening Audit Readiness and Transparency
Managing the finances of the nation’s largest integrated healthcare system requires flawless stewardship. John Mengucci, CACI’s President and CEO—and a seven-time Wash100 Award winner—emphasized the strategic importance of the award. He noted that CACI will leverage its deep, proven expertise in federal financial modernization to rapidly streamline the VA’s operations.
By continuously improving the department’s ERP capabilities, CACI aims to help the VA achieve unparalleled financial transparency and airtight audit readiness. This cost-effective modernization strategy ensures that the VA’s financial infrastructure operates seamlessly in the background, allowing the department to focus its resources entirely on its core mission: delivering highly effective, uninterrupted care and services to American veterans.
