Prudential plc has repurchased 1,578,726 of its ordinary shares between July 20 and July 24, 2026, as part of its ongoing share buyback programme. The transactions were carried out on the London Stock Exchange through JP Morgan Securities plc under an arrangement announced in January. The company intends to cancel the repurchased shares.
Latest Share Purchases
The largest daily purchase took place on July 20, when Prudential bought 500,319 shares at a volume-weighted average price of £10.5069 per share. The company purchased another 270,412 shares on July 21, followed by 270,162 shares on July 22. Purchases of 269,247 and 268,586 shares were completed on July 23 and July 24, respectively.
The daily average purchase prices ranged from £10.5069 to £11.0101, with the highest average price recorded on July 22. The repurchases were executed as on-exchange transactions under the London Stock Exchange Listing Rules and treated as on-market purchases under the Hong Kong Code on Share Buy-Backs.
Nearly 49M Shares Repurchased
Since the buyback programme began on January 6, 2026, Prudential has repurchased a total of 48,967,118 ordinary shares. The programme-to-date volume-weighted average purchase price stands at 1,091.5462 pence per share.
Following the latest transactions and planned cancellations, Prudential expects to have 2,504,979,851 ordinary shares in issue. The figure also represents the company’s total voting rights and serves as the relevant denominator for certain shareholder disclosure requirements under the UK’s Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules.
Capital Return Strategy
The continued buyback highlights Prudential’s broader capital management strategy as the insurer returns capital to shareholders while reducing its outstanding share count. Share cancellations can potentially increase the proportionate ownership represented by each remaining share and may support per-share metrics over time, although the ultimate impact depends on the company’s financial performance and market conditions.
Investors will likely continue watching the pace of repurchases and the company’s remaining capital allocation priorities as Prudential expands its life, health insurance and asset management operations across Asia and Africa.
